Worksop
can cash in on lottery grants
Thousands
of pounds of Lottery Grants could soon be landed by angling clubs
thanks to eight National Federation of Anglers (NFA) Regional Seminars.
They are designed to assist clubs to attract external funding up to £5,000
through the Awards for All grants.
So far the NFA presentation team, comprising of membership services manager
Bob Clark and club development officer, John Mitchell, have travelled
to Bolton and Wakefield and the mood of the club representatives has been
upbeat.
Bob Clark said: The response to the practical workshops has been
fantastic. The objective is to explain what funding is available and then
show the key players how to apply for it.
So far, every participant has left the seminar full of enthusiasm
and with the tools to claim their own grant.
Several NFA clubs have already received an Awards for All lottery grant
Worksop and District have received funding over £3,000.
Lincoln and District AA and the NFAs north-east region, who applied
for funding for coaching activities, have also been successful.
The seminars are being held in the conference room at regional Holiday
Inn hotels and several of the workshops are already oversubscribed.
Mr Clark added: We are delighted with the response from our clubs.
Clearly we need to focus on external funding and support for our members.
Many clubs have activities that qualify for a grant but they need
help with completing the form. The seminars have been a huge success and
we will arrange to host more if our clubs request them.
Disabled
International Trials
The recently-appointed
England disabled team manager, Brian Turner, is inviting match anglers
with disabilities to contact him if they feel they are good enough to
represent England in the fifth World Championships being fished in Italy
on Saturday and Sunday, 4th and 5th October.
Anyone interested has to be a member of a club affiliated to the National
Federation of Anglers and, of course, they must be adept with pole and
waggler techniques.
It is my intention to hold trial matches on a water similar to the
competition venue to enable us to select the best possible team to come
away from the championships with some medals, said Turner.
To conform with the World Governing Body (CIPS) rules, the squad has to
be selected on a handicap points system with a minimum of 10 points being
eligible on each of the two match days.
A blind angler is awarded six points along with an angler with an upper
limb lacking in mobility.
An angler who cannot fish without a wheelchair attracts four points and
a competitor with a partially amputated upper limb whose remaining limb
is mobile and useful is awarded three points.
A lower limb lacking in mobility or an angler with one leg is awarded
two points while a competitor with two handicapped legs who can move without
the aid of a wheel-chair or other apparatus attracts one point.
The fabulous lake chosen for this years World Championships is the
Lago Borghese at Monsummano Terme.
CIPS state it is located in Valdinievole, a natural oasis of Padule de
Fucecchio, one of the most important wet areas in Italy in the province
of Pistoia.
The lake has good stocks of common carp, crucians, rudd, bream, chinese
carp, catfish, roach and bleak.
The depth of the lake is 3m to 4m. Nominations must be received by the
NFA no later than 30th April and should be marked for the attention of
Brian Turner.
Tony
Pressley
It is
with deep regret that I have to report the death of well known local angler
Tony Pressley of Dickens Road, who died last Friday.
Tony was a member of the Worksop United Angling Society for many years
and also a past member of the Grafton Angling Association.
He loved his fishing and took great pride in the successes of his son,
Mark who is the current team manager of the Worksop and District Angling
Associations junior and intermediate squads and also a member of
the Worksop Senior squad.
Tony was also proud of the achievements of his grandsons, Richard and
Jonathan, both of whom are competent anglers in their own right.
On behalf of the many anglers in the region who had the pleasure of knowing
Tony, I wish to extend our condolences to his wife and all of the family.
The funeral service takes place this morning at St. Marys Roman
Catholic Church at 11am.
Big
Barbel
The Derby
City Angling Club waters of the River Idle that meanders behind Hallcroft
Fisheries at Retford has yielded a barbel of 11lb 2oz.
The fish was caught by Dave Jackson who enticed it on double bronze maggot
attached to a size 14 hook that was presented on the stick float.
After a long and arduous battle, the fish was landed and then weighed
by witness D.W. Ibbotson who borrowed some match scales from Bryan Talbot
of Hallcroft Fishery.
Season tickets for the Derby City AC waters are currently on sale priced
at £12 and they can be obtained from Ron Trevis on 01246 851571.
