Reece
is top dog in Redlands match-up
Redlands
School pupils took part in a recent annual angling activities day on Sandhill
Lake, courtesy of Worksop and District Anglers Association (WDAA).
They received their prizes at a special school assembly where WDAA president,
Michael Pogson, and WDAA bailiff, John Hayward, were the invited guests
to present the awards.
Prizes for the competition were sponsored by Gateford Angling Supplies,
Ken Ward Sports, David Slater, Garry Butt and Ian Pickersgill.
At the formal presentation it was pointed out that, despite the atrocious
weather conditions on the day (it rained for the whole period of the event),
not one competitor left their pegs.
Top rod on the day (following in his brother Ashleys steps) was
Reece Nicolson with a creditable 1lb 15oz.
Josh Platfoot was second with 1lb 3oz, Michael Hughes, Peter Spencer,
Louise Worseman all tied for third with 13oz and Ashleigh Walker was sixth
with 12oz.
Winner of the biggest fish prize that was donated by Glyn Williams and
Ken Stevenson (NFA Coaches) was Kirsty Whittington with a roach of 6.5oz.
Christopher
ranked second in the country
Christophor
Tait is the second best junior angler in the country after securing the
silver medal in last weekends NFA Sensas Junior National Competition that
was staged on the Loughborough Canal and the River Soar.
Fishing on a water that proved very difficult for most of the 125 competitors,
Christophor managed to put 3lb 12.5oz onto the scales. National champion
is Jonathan Plows with 5lb 11oz.
The A and B teams representing Worksop tried hard to retain the title
of national champions but they had to settle for a tenth and sixth placing
respectively.
The Intermediate team came home with a bronze medal after losing out by
the narrowest of margins to Peterborough and District AA who finished
on 104 points, one point ahead of Derby and District and Worksop and District
A, who tied on 103.
However, after the overall team weights were calculated, Worksop had to
settle for third place on weight difference with Derby on 15lb 8.75 oz
as against their combined weight of 12lb 15.5oz.
Portland
School
Pupils
from Portland School converged on Lucys Lake at Hayfield on Tuesday
as part of their activities week.
The event was also the first of two trials for the selection of the eight-person
squad to represent the school in the national championships at the Glebe
Fishery in Leicestershire later this year.
Under the guidance of NFA coaches Glyn Williams and Ken Stevenson, quite
a number of those taking part have received their NFA Kingfisher Award
certificate and badge for covering several assignments.
On the
day Michael Bell, right, (Rhodesia) was top rod with 9lb 6oz from peg
45 and his weight included a mirror carp of 4lb 9oz.

Remaining top weights were Craig Silk (Langold) 4lb, Paul Dickson (Rhodesia)
