Anglers cause havoc with canalside rubbish

We are only three weeks into the new season and once again selfish anglers are causing havoc on the local canal.

The problems being created relate to rubbish on the bank side and inconsiderate parking of vehicles.

Litter is a major problem and one has to wonder what these so called anglers are like at home.
If they conduct themselves in the same manner as they do on the bank side their homes must be like a cess pit.

To these individuals I would just like to ask them one question. What is simpler than placing your empty food bags, cigarette packets, bait tins and empty bottles back inside your carryall or basket and taking them home with you to put in your waste bin?

The Grafton Angling Association, and Worksop and District Anglers Association – like all other angling associations and clubs – lease waters from organisations such as the local council, British Waterways and the Environment Agency.

They have to sign contracts to enable them to be responsible for the running of fisheries like the Chesterfield Canal, River Trent, Sandhill Lake or Woodsetts Quarry Pond.

The anglers themselves have a duty to respect the Countryside Code of Conduct and allow angling clubs to keep their fishing rights.

The parking problem relates to the roadway section of the Chesterfield Canal between Rhodesia Bridge and Shireoaks Bridge where some anglers are putting members of the general public at risk.
This problem applies especially to disabled people in mobility vehicles as well as mothers or fathers pushing prams or pushchairs.

They suddenly find that their access is denied because an angler’s car is parked across the causeway, which means they have to walk around the vehicle onto the road.

To those anglers who are creating this problem I ask the question. How would you like it if the access to your drive at home was obstructed by someone else’s vehicle? Not a lot I bet.

Anglers are their own worst enemy and it is the inconsiderate few that spoil it for the majority.
As the spokesperson for the Grafton Angling Association I can categorically state that we do not condone these mindless actions and the offenders would do us all a favour if they kept away.

They are not genuine anglers and ought to get their act together and start thinking of other people rather than themselves.
