Worksop dominate East Midland event

For the second consecutive year, Worksop juniors dominated the East Midland Regional Championships that were fished on the South Yorkshire Navigation Canal at Mexborough.

ace respectively and five of the top six individual placings.
Patrick Goulding, who at the time of this event was the current schools national champion, took the individual trophy with a mixture of roach and perch for 3lb 4oz using hemp and squatt at nine metres.
Fellow squad member Gavin Tomlinson was second with 3lb 1oz, followed by Chris Hurst (Derby) with 2lb 10.5oz, Chris Tait (Worksop) 2lb, Simon Bolton (Worksop) 1lb 13.5oz and Terry Foulds (Worksop) 1lb 11.5oz

Embassy pairs qualifier

Worksop Senior squad members Andrew Pickersgill and Gordan Smith have qualified for the £21,000 Embassy Challenge Grand Final that is to be held in Spain next year.
Fishing in the penultimate qualifying event on the Erewash Canal, the pair secured third place to ensure their trip to Spain. Andrew, who is sponsored by Mick Pridmore of Angling Supplies on Retford Road, is having a great season after being selected for the second consecutive year to fish for the England Youth squad in the World Championships that were held earlier in the year. The Worksop pair qualified with 475 points and a combined weight of 16lb 2oz.
In an earlier qualifier, father and son-in-law Stuart Grey and Chris Eves of Worksop also made it to the finals, so the town will be well represented in the prestigious event that is one of the angling highlights of the season.

Big carp for Jo

Jo Freeman of Hallcroft joined her husband Stephen for a weekend pleasure angling session at Smeaton’s Lakes near Newark.
Stephen had already caught a bream of 3lb and a personal best carp of 12lb before Jo, who was using a £10 telescopic rod that she purchased from Retford market, hooked into what proved to be a giant fish.
After an exciting tussle, and with the assistance of Stephen, they managed to land the big carp that bottomed out on their set of scales with a 26lb maximum limit so the fish was estimated to be in excess of 30lb.
