The eagerly awaited Lynda’s Lakeside Annual Christmas Charity Match took place last Saturday and saw a total sell-out of 59 anglers competing for one of the most prestigious titles on the local angling calendar.

The event which was in aid of the Children’s Ward, Bassetlaw Hospital Christmas Party and presents - and the Salvation Army Christmas Fund

The event was well supported by local businesses and individuals alike, especially Lynda and Steve the proprietors of the venue, who dug especially deep donating all pegging fees back to the nominated good causes.

Additional thanks must also go to Geoff Mawby of Gateford Angling supplies for various raffle prizes, Tommy Spencer for acquiring signed footballs from three football clubs - Rotherham and both Sheffield clubs, Michael and Kim of Snak Attak , John Stiff of Top Cuts, Nestle for a generous food hamper and lots and lots of individual donations, too many to mention but you all know who you are - and we thank you all.

The fishing was as expected at this time of year, harder than of late, but this did not deter from the general camaraderie and every competitor managed to put at least a few fish in the net.

The total funds raised on the day came to an amazing £785.00 of which £200.00 was donated to the children's ward with the remainder going to the Salvation Army.

The results were:
1st Daz Godley peg 4 30lb 9oz main lake mixed net maggot feeder
2nd Colin Day peg 29a 27lb 1oz floating pole
3rd Mick Donnoly peg 28 23lb 4oz

Top Junior on the day was Tommy Davenport, who took a late carp to boost his net to 19lb 4oz fishing from peg 12.

To accept the donations were nurses Mc loughlin and Darwin and Salvation Army officers Tracey and Sian.
