Ripley & District Angling Club

Ripley & District Angling Club has been in existence for over 100 years. The club is based at Butterley Reservoir and has alternative venues at Coppice Lake near Ilkeston, Painters Ponds at Wingfield and the River Derwent between Ambergate and Whatstandwell.

At Butterley the reservoir is bisected by the Midland Railway Centre rail track. Traditionally it has never been easy to get to the Swanwick side however that has now changed with the provision of Ramped access. This is a major breakthrough, the main beneficiaries being the invalid and disabled Anglers.

The ramp is part of an ongoing maintenance plan which includes hardcore pathways, tree pruning and peg repairs.

2006 sees the return of COMPETITIVE ANGLING to Butterley. A series of open and visitor matches are planned, these to continue into the winter months to form a Winter League. Carp and Pike matches are also planned.

The matches will be carefully scheduled so as to guarantee plenty of choice for the pleasure Angler. A few vacant dates are still available for yisiting societies, particularly mid week dates.

Coppice Lake is a very picturesque venue just off the A610 near the Shipley Garden Centre. It is set in private grounds with a secure car park. The lake has a good stock of Carp and Tench and has recently been restocked with approximately 6000 silver fish of various species. It is also the venue for the coaching sessions provided for our Junior Members. This is an important feature of the R&D AC calendar will again be run by a qualified NFA coach assisted by members of the committee.

Painters Ponds is a relatively new fishery at Moorwood Moor. It consists of two ponds which are well stocked with Carp and silver fish. A quantity of Chub have been added during the Winter. It fished very well last year and should be even better this year as it matures.

Along the River Derwent, at the ‘lay-bye’ stretch 18 pegs were completely overhauled towards the end of last year. Recent catches have included large Perch, Trout, Grayling and the occasional barbel.

The Membership Books for 2006 will very soon be available. As of this year, New Memberships and Renewals are available from all local Tackle Shops with renewals also available from the bailiffs at Butterley. Please remember, NO ID NUMBER – NO RENEWAL.

The plans for 2006 include quite a few changes. These began at the AGM which saw a change of Club Management and new faces on the committee.
