Westlands Lakes

Should you turn up at Westlands Lakes and realise you have forgotten your bait, you’re in luck, as the Lakes have their very own tackle/pet shop on site, while snacks are also available along with toilet facilities.

These three ponds have plenty of fish in, but the one I have personally fished is the small lake and did very well, catching carp up to 7lb on pellet and floating bread flake. It has 32 pegs and is stocked with tench, carp, roach and some good ide with the biggest carp going to 12lb.

The middle lake has 34 pegs, and are all very well presented with platforms. Fish go from ozs up to a cracking 42lb common carp which was caught earlier this summer. Again the pond has all species.

The third water – the tench lake – is another great lake with some great sport on offer. Tench and bream both go to above 10lb while there is plenty of silver fish on offer. There are 42 pegs to choose from.
All three Lakes accept disabled anglers, have parking spaces, and all have been fishing well. Matches can be booked on the lakes with fishing from dawn til dusk. Bans are no cat and dog food. Fishing is £5 per day, per rod.

Directions: From Bridlington head along the Hull road and when you reach the roundabout at Brandesburton turn left. Head along along this road for a few minutes until you come to another junction and then turn left again and, after about 200 yards turn left into the driveway for the tackle/pet shop.

MANY ponds in the area have just dropped off of late, mainly due to the poor weather, but this is only what I have been told as I have not managed to get to the fishing bank myself for nearly four weeks and hope to get the rods out in the next week or so. The forcast is set to improve and fishing is expected to pick up again - so I may have timed my break from fishing just right.

Best of luck with any fishing adventures and don’t forget to send us your pictures and club results. Pictures don’t have to be of whoppers but it may be your first ever fish, your first carp or even a kingfisher feeding on the fry!

Wansford:
The pond has plenty of good-sized fish to catch. Carp up to 20lb are being caught on sweetcorn and meat as are the tench. There are also plenty of silver fish being caught on maggot and pellet. Carp are also taking off the surface.
A full day’s fishing will cost you £3 and £1 for an extra rod and you can set up from 7am until dark and for an evening session (5.30pm onwards) you can fish for just £2. Open matches are sometimes held on the pond should you fancy winning some money!

Wansford Trout Lake:

Thursday’s match saw very wet conditions, all got soaked, weights from this match were inconclusive, however, weights in the placings ranged from 35lb to 47lb.
One of the younger anglers, Nathaniel Read, saw his rod disappearing into the lake, but no problem as he went head first into the lake, retrieved the rod and called ‘fish on’!.
