Westlands
Lakes
Should
you turn up at Westlands Lakes and realise you have forgotten your bait,
youre in luck, as the Lakes have their very own tackle/pet shop
on site, while snacks are also available along with toilet facilities.
These three ponds
have plenty of fish in, but the one I have personally fished is the
small lake and did very well, catching carp up to 7lb on pellet and
floating bread flake. It has 32 pegs and is stocked with tench, carp,
roach and some good ide with the biggest carp going to 12lb.
The middle lake
has 34 pegs, and are all very well presented with platforms. Fish go
from ozs up to a cracking 42lb common carp which was caught earlier
this summer. Again the pond has all species.
The third water
the tench lake is another great lake with some great sport
on offer. Tench and bream both go to above 10lb while there is plenty
of silver fish on offer. There are 42 pegs to choose from.
All three Lakes accept disabled anglers, have parking spaces, and all
have been fishing well. Matches can be booked on the lakes with fishing
from dawn til dusk. Bans are no cat and dog food. Fishing is £5
per day, per rod.
Directions: From Bridlington head along the Hull road and when you reach
the roundabout at Brandesburton turn left. Head along along this road
for a few minutes until you come to another junction and then turn left
again and, after about 200 yards turn left into the driveway for the
tackle/pet shop.

Results
MANY ponds in the area have just dropped off of late, mainly due to
the poor weather, but this is only what I have been told as I have not
managed to get to the fishing bank myself for nearly four weeks and
hope to get the rods out in the next week or so. The forcast is set
to improve and fishing is expected to pick up again - so I may have
timed my break from fishing just right.
Best of luck with
any fishing adventures and dont forget to send us your pictures
and club results. Pictures dont have to be of whoppers but it
may be your first ever fish, your first carp or even a kingfisher feeding
on the fry!
Wansford:
The pond has plenty of good-sized fish to catch. Carp up to 20lb are
being caught on sweetcorn and meat as are the tench. There are also
plenty of silver fish being caught on maggot and pellet. Carp are also
taking off the surface.
A full days fishing will cost you £3 and £1 for an
extra rod and you can set up from 7am until dark and for an evening
session (5.30pm onwards) you can fish for just £2. Open matches
are sometimes held on the pond should you fancy winning some money!
Wansford Trout Lake:
There is also a trout lake for fly fishing which is stocked regularly.
A full day, keeping three fish will cost you £15 or £10
for half a day and two fish. And for no fish it is £8 for a full
day and £5 half a day.
Emmotland:
There are four ponds here, with all species available. In Pond One you

there are plenty of carp averaging 10lb, although there are only a few
select pegs available in this one, so get there early.
And Pond Four, which has only recently been dug, is about four foot
in most places and is packed with fish. It has been fishing really well
and everyone is catching plenty and is great value for your £5
day ticket, and although the fish are not as big as in the other ponds,
you do catch all day.
Wykeham Lakes, near Scarborough:
These popular ponds offer sport for all anglers, with a match pond (35
pegs), two other coarse ponds, one of which is predominantly full of
carp, a pike pond and there is also trout fishing, which is regularly
stocked with what are described as superb fighting fish.
The trout are mostly between two and nine pound with day tickets £8-£25
depending on how many fish you keep.
Coarse fishing is £6 for an adult and £4 concessions, but
there are plenty of fish with carp, tench, crucian carp, roach and bream
all available. It has been fishing reasonably well and more of the bigger
carp have started to show with some bigger ones going up to 25lb. Plenty
of small tench and crucian have also been caught in the last few days.
And if you want to have a go for the pike, these run to well over 30lb
and many 10-16lb have been getting caught on lures. There are also huge
eels, 6-10lb, lurking in the waters!
Fishing is from 7am until dusk and the only bait ban is plastic baits.

The lake continues to fish well as can be seen by the results, however
the fish are still shoaling around the features.
Far Grange results
the lakes continue to fish well with all species feeding on various

a benine peg 9.
Thursdays match saw very wet conditions, all got soaked, weights
from this match were inconclusive, however, weights in the placings
ranged from 35lb to 47lb.
One of the younger anglers, Nathaniel Read, saw his rod disappearing
into the lake, but no problem as he went head first into the lake, retrieved
the rod and called fish on!.

Westend Farm Pond (Ulrome):
Although this is a very small pond and only has nine pegs, the good
thing about small ponds is that you know the fish are never far away.
The pond is stocked with plenty of small roach but there are bigger
fish in the pond with plenty of crucian carp going to well over 2lb.
The pond is also stocked with perch, rudd and tench which go
to 9lb and the baits to use are luncheon meat, sweetcorn and
pellet for the better stamp of fish and maggot will catch all day long

Gatehouse Lake (Cranswick):
This is another pond which has only opened in recent years and can easily
be missed, but it is also another cracking place to fish.
Set at the back of the Hutton Cranswick football pitches, this pond
has many different fish on offer. There are plenty of carp which are
often caught on pellet while chub, tench, bream, dace, rudd and bleak
are just some of the other fish on offer.
The lake has been fishing well of late with some good bags on an evening.
