Qualifier No13 - Saturday 3 May 08

46 Anglers lined up to compete in the latest Fish4 5K Qualifier at Water Meadows Chapel St Leonards, Skegness.

Darren Pimperton of Team Avanti drew peg 21 and caught steadily all day and despite loosing several large fish topped the field with 40lb 4oz.
Alan Hopkins of Rotherham took the qualification place from peg 38. Alan picked up the odd fish on pellet in the first half of the match but with 2 hours to go his catch rate increased with a mixture of carp, tench and bream to 3lb. Alan won through to the final with a respectable weight of 36lb 15 oz.

Barry Cooling of Team Avanti was just a couple of fish short of gaining qualification from peg 22. Barry caught steadily from the off on 6mm expander pellet on the far bank to weigh 34lb 14oz of carp to 6lb.

Local anger Terry Caughtry of Team Avanti was also unlucky on peg 4. Terry’s most successful line was up to the boards on the far bank fihing large expander pellet and but for several lost fish he could have qualified. Terry finished with carp and barbel to 4lb for a final weight of 32lb 2oz.

Next week sees the last two qualifiers in the Fish4 5K Grand Final to be held on May 18th at Water Meadows.

Qualifier No14 - Sun 4 May 08

Conditions were slightly improved as the wind turned from a cool easterly to a warmer southerly for the 43 anglers on the latest Fish4 5K Qualifier.

Colin Spencer of Mansfield made the most of a good draw and caught well all day from peg44. Colin fished the far bank and caught carp to 5lb on pellet for a total weight of 62lb 4oz. Colin claims the 14th place in the Fish4 5K Grand Final.

Paul Larthwell of Boston caught well from the off at the bottom of the near shelf on pellet from peg36. Paul would have challenged for the quaification spot but suffered a quiet spell in the middle of the match and also lost several fish. Despite this Paul netted a respectable weight of 47lb 3oz.

Terry O’Hare of Mansfield also caught well from the beginning of the match from peg 21 fishing pellet and sweet corn. Terry presented his bait on the far shelf up to the boards to pick up carp to 5lb and finished the match with a weight of 42lb 3oz.

Pete Jones Team Avanti was in the frame for the second week in a row but has still to claim that elusive qualification spot. Pete caught carp sporadically from the start on peg 23 on expander pellet but was loosing as many fish as he was landing but a change of rig saw his catch rate improve and he finished with 39lb 14oz.
