On-going work
at Sutton Lake

One of the many areas Derbyshire County Angling Club is noted for is looking after and enhancing its waters.

Sutton Lake, a shallow 17 acre former gravel pit is a prime example.

The lake averaged three feet deep all round. This has led to warm water and lack of oxygen in hot summers. The club hired a digger with a 25 metre reach and a driver to excavate the lake to six feet for up to twenty metres from the bank.

The spoil has been spread, the area landscaped and re-seeded and the lake is due to re-open on September 1st.

This is a really good dry-fly and nymph fishery and is open all year.

It is well stocked with brown and rainbow trout. The bailiffs are both helpful and knowledgeable. I'm looking forward to fishing it again soon!

Best wishes.
