Wow doesn't time fly by?

No sooner have I penned my last article than Kevin [the boss] wants another! Well that's what it seems to me.
(Sorry Dave - deadlines you know - Ed.)

I've just returned from a small [under 1 acre] pond in North Notts where I managed two small commons up to 9lb. Both fish were caught in the latter stages of the day - where as my good buddy John Phillips had three up to 11lb in the earlier part of the day !

Now before you all say we were fishing at opposite ends of the pond, I should point out we were fishing the same peg!

The one thing in common was that we both fished with the awesome nut-mix boilies from the Custom Baits stable. Oh yes - and we were both using the method wrapped around Fox method feeders, cast to the far bank.

All our fish were commons - in great condition. The owner pointed out to us that most of his customers wouldn't have been able to land the larger fish because their hook links weren't strong enough. He also said there was a large mirror in there at around 33lb, so I think another visit during the colder months will be on the cards.

I won't name the venue - so as not to embarrass anyone who reads this and takes offence to my earlier comments. It was just what the owner told us while taking our money.

My baits were 12mm in size and fished with scolded pellets from Mark at C.B.S. I fished my baits just poked inside the method where as John had his some 8" away. Just shows what were the fish thinking?

I tucked my bait away [a small pop-up] so the fish would root out the method and the pop-up would swim up as the fish disturbed the method. In a frenzy the fish would jump at my bait, well that's my theory in any case, and in the frenzy not see the hook.

The hook was a size 8 long-shank Nailer from Carp 'R' Us. John uses the same hook but has done a couple of trick things to the final presentation. He would not fish with me if I revealed his tricks to you all - but I am watching him closely and one day I might reveal all - when I've studied his catch rates in the future.

As me mum used to say when I asked what was for tea "you will have to wait and see"

Sorry it's a short write-up this time but I am expected to wrap some presents now.

So on that note - have a great Christmas and catch a wacker, but just remember - catching is a bonus at this time of year!
