NOTTS waters

1st February 2006

Well winter's here and the carp know it at most of the waters I visit! However I have heard of a mirror of 35lb 12oz coming from THE PRIDE OR DERBYS main lake, the Pride Lake, OLIVERS LAKE has also thrown out a couple - as witnessed by a friend walking round the other day. Contact the club on www.prideofderby.co.uk for more details.

PEACOCK PONDS has even slowed down and on some weekends there isn't even matches booked! Those fish being caught are mainly singles with the odd double being landed. Mainly being caught on double maggots.

HIGHAM FARM where the smaller ponds still throw out a few to those who know the waters. Nothing big but they are fishing well for the time of year. Here small boilies with bag and pellets being the best method.

BUTTERLY RESEVOIR has even slowed down but fish are still being landed at range with either a bag of pellets or a scattering of boilies very near by. Expect a take just after baiting up !

SAPPHIRE LAKES has thrown out a few. Alan Clarke from Grimsby had a couple weighing in an 11lb 60z and 11lb 8oz. both being mirrors and both caught on cranbury boilies popped up, fished with a bag and pellets! Mark Cree had a net of small carp, up too 7lb, fishing with flouro boilie and a bag of pellets! Contact the new owner Gary on 01636 821131.

CROMWELL LAKES near Newark is fishing very slow for carp but pike to 22lb have been landed from the main lake. Most of the pike are around the mid-double bracket. Carp in the small match lake are still being caught but that’s all. They are mainly being caught on maggots fished a rod length out. Gary will help you if he can on 01636 822425.

LAKESIDE FISHERIES at Rankskill Notts is still throwing out a few, as usual, but nothing like it does in the warmer months. Regular John Thompson from Nottingham did well having four fish to 21lb 6oz from peg 4 .The biggie being a mirror, all his fish fell to boilies. Mark Robinson from Manchester also did well having three carp up to 20lb 2oz, a common, caught on sweetcorn from peg 5. Gary Croft from Manchester had an 18lb mirror from peg 4. Paul Hutchinson from Manchester had a winter cracker of a mirror at 23lb 6oz from peg 4. Shaun Parker also did well having three carp up to 19lb 3oz from peg three. A chap by the name of Rolly Mill from Sheffield had 17 carp in a day from peg 4 of the strip pond. The biggest going 17lb+. Sam Jackson had carp to 14lb from the far margin of the strip pond, both used small pellets!

SHERWOOD FOREST FARM FISHERY is still throwing them out but not in as many numbers as it does in the summer. In the Holme lake, down at the very bottom, fish behind the island and you can't fail ! Contact the owners in case the lake you want to fish in match booked on 07721 316334.

COVERT SPRINGS has thrown out a couple but that’s all. Sorry no further details from this small Notts venue. But you do have at least three ponds to have a go at.
