A September visit to Les Quis

My hasn't this year gone fast? Here we are at the end of autumn and very soon the beginning of the winter.
At the beginning of the autumn I was offered a place on my favourite venue very cheaply from a friend who had been badly let down by someone else. Like a rat down a hole I had everything sorted and we were on our way!

I have been to Les Quis already this year but failed to catch any of the monsters that lurk in its deep water, so I couldn't wait to get out there again. I did land a few in April but not of the weights I go to France for (11 carp to 26lb 4oz). This time I wanted to do better.

I did but only just - as I had 6 carp, all but one were mirrors, to 30lb 4oz

I chose to fish the right hand point swim in the long lake [have a look at the swim at www.lesquis.co.uk I did manage to avoid the singles and doubles this time as all my fish were 20lb or above.

I tried so many variations that I could hardly remember which ones I'd tried or not! Baiting every hour with 1kg of boilies and 1kg of maize, fishing with boilie only on top of this larder, fished 3 foot off the baited area, fished in the middle of the larder and others dropped short. Fished 2 rod lengths short with no free offerings and even a 70 yard chuck with no free offerings to a rolling fish. Which one caught ? ALL OF THEM ! but only in twos!

Yep nothing for a day then two fish on the same rod. Then nothing for 2 days then two on another rod. You guessed it 2 more on the last rod, yes it does add up to 6 fish!

I moved on the last day but to no avail as although I had lots of fish bubbling and crashing, for whatever reason I couldn't get a take. This peg is known as the beach swim on the old lake. A friend was in peg 25 just yards from me and he had 2 x 50lb commons and 4 x 40lbers and yes we were using the same bait.

The bait being Winter Secret boilies from Solar Baits. This bait along with the other two is supplied by the lakes owners.

All-in-all a great weeks entertainment especially as a majority of the anglers were from London and they were all taking time out to be social.
