Gossip: There's supposed to be a couple of albino catfish in there, but new owner Gary has had an application to stock cats refused, because of close vicinity of the river Trent. The lake is situated in the peaceful village of Cromwell (look for the sign-post next to Holly Farm Shop), near Newark, Nottinghamshire, five minutes from Newark off the A1 heading north to Doncaster. The beautiful spring-fed 17-acre lake has excellent water quality with an abundance of natural features.It is noted for its tranquil surroundings and wildlife. All the 60 pegs are a short easy walk from the car park where toilet/ disabled facilities are available. For the last 25 years Cromwell Lake was exclusively a trout fishery, it closed its doors on 31st Dec. 2000 and re-opened 1st Jan 2001 as a specimen carp and pike water. Around 470 specimen carp have been stocked over the last four years, and it now has a good head of carp in the region of 20lbs - plus several fish in the 30lb bracket. Carp around the 40lb mark have been spotted. All the carp stocked are now in double figures.
