Early November Snow
Snow; deep and crisp and even. That's a bit of poetic licence because this
was wet, patchy and inconvenient. The stuff you see on Christmas cards is pretty
and enhances the world. This stuff should be sent back under the guarantee as
not up to standard.
Poor old Murphy - he’s only got very short legs, so even with this minor
dollop, his under belly tackle was getting cold and wet, and he is definitely
not a fan. Sent him cross eyed! Fortunately this inconvenience had gone the next
morning but was it a taste of things to come? It’s only November!
We were out last weekend and watched a group of lads in their piscatorial pursuits.
They were, to my mind, very high tech. They had a remote controlled boat which
was towing a floating thing which somehow (I’m not technical) sends a signal
out which bounces back from the bottom and sends to a thing like a TV remote,
helped by the “fisher man”, which becomes a picture of the bottom
of the lake or pond, telling the depth and temperature of the water, also if there
are any fish below. Forgive me in my naivety, but is this fishing?
I think not. Where will it end? “You can fish from the comfort of your own
fireside with our new remote fishing experience!” I think now! But then
again, I’m just a luddite!
Been out and about this week. I was near to Orgreave, Rotherham way, where
there used to be a coking plant and lots of “tips”, the visible signs
of deep mining operations. You remember Orgreave there was a lot of bother there
in the miner’s strike. Well, Arthur Skargill would be gobsmacked. It’s
been open casted and is no more. They are now reinstating the site and it is amazing.
(One very substantial benefit from open casting)
Closer to home, I went to my sons the other day and went by the old Coalite
plant, you remember that? Had to hold your breath as you drove by- that’s
gone! and the smell!! That is a step in the right direction. In fact this victim
of industrial rape is making a good recovery.
That’s enough on the political side of things, it’s stopped raining
as well. Noticed that the holly berries have all gone! We have some well fed birds
though!
I will leave you with this thought - The easiest way to live within your income
is to have a big one!
See you,
Buggy Man
