The
Complete Guide to Coarse Fisheries in the Irish Midlands
Book 2. Author - Bernie Murphy
Now
here's something different and unusual - proceeds from this series
of books will be going to the following three charities - Longford
Hospice Home Care, Save the Otter and Our Lady's Hospital for Sick
Children - what a good start to a review!
I met Bernie Murphy at the Go Fishing exhibition in Birmingham in
April - and what a delightful man he is - laid-back, calm and collected
- nothing like some of our angling journalists!
This is his second book in a series of five to be published - and
it contains details of over 50 different waters - the fish species
stocked, driving directions and an honest verdict on each water's
potential.
Add to this some delightful poetry, I particularly liked 'The Corncrake'
by Paddy Egan, plus of course, some charming Irish anecdotes and stories
- and you have a lovely, well produced book of some 154 pages.
There is a limited amount of advertising in the book - just enough
to be helpful but not intrusive.
I must admit, I've read this book twice now - and even the descriptions
of the lakes and Loughs are interesting, although Bernie sometimes
admits to getting lost on more than one occasion!
If you are considering a visit to the Emerald Isle, check out Bernie's
books - they will give you a better idea of Ireland's wealth of wild
angling waters, it's rural charm and it's hospitality.
