Barbel Fishing
The streamlined shape of the barbel gives away where he likes to live in fast flowing water. He uses his whiskers to help him locate and taste food. Barbel are a packet of muscle and are known as the hardest fighting fish in the river. You can often spot them moving in and out of beds of streamer weed. A great way to target barbel if to trundle a lob worm through gaps in the weed. Add a couple of Swan Shot above the forged size eight hook.
Barbel don't mess about. If you get a bite, you'll know about it. Barbel grow to over 16 lb, but even a two pounder will pull your rod in if you're not careful. Phew! It took fifteen minutes to beat this and that was on eight pound line! These fish know how to use that strong current. At 4lb 2 oz he's just big enough for an 'Improve your Course Fishing' mission accomplished badge. Lets put him back and try to catch his dad.
