Hello everyone,
My name's Ashley Tappenden, I'm a 14 year old angler soon to be 15 in
May, from the south of England - Greenwich in South East London to be
precise.
I'm an all-round angler - I go out to catch any species really, whether
from freshwater or saltwater, I do it all from carp to cod.
I mainly floatfish as I think it's the most exciting and fairly skilled
way of fishing, on the bed for all the bottom feeders usually and up in
the water for silvers and maybe even the odd cruising big fish, but I
know what methods and techniques to use to get a fish on the end of my
line. I'm also a strict catch and release angler.
I mainly fish a local lake called "The Glade" in Lamorbey Park,
Sidcup, it's a 2.2 acre lake which goes to about 7 foot deep maximum with
a nice array of species - thanks to the manager and all anglers who look
after the fish, they are getting to good sizes. It's a public park lake
but it also has a members side which I am a part of, that is out of bounds
to the public.
In this column of AnglersTimes, I'm going to write about quite a few things,
topics that will interest younger anglers and hopefully the older anglers
too.
There is going to be a section on my angling experiences and any you -
the readers wish to send in. I'll be giving out some interesting tips
and techniques and you can email me if you have any questions related
to angling. There will also be regular updates on recommended products
etc and tackle shops.
As
proof of being an all-rounder, here's a few pictures of places I fish.
These places are highly recommended by myself and anglers around the area,
if ever you have the chance to fish them, give it a go.
This is a picture of "The Glade"
which I regularly fish, it has a nice head of fish including carp to over
30lbs and crucians (including hybrids) to 6lbs 7oz, it's also great in
the summer for matches as the silvers really turn on.
This is Hainault Forest where I go for my pike fishing - it has a
nice lot of pike in there to about 30lbs including a nice array of carp
to over 20lbs.

Here is a pike caught from that spot in the picture, under the overhanging
tree, it weighed about 8lbs...

The next one is for all the saltwater lovers, if you thought it was
dirty, think again, that's right, I'm talking about the saltwater part
of the Thames at Erith Pier.
Lots of species can be caught there - from flounder and dab to even
some fair sized cod and nice eels.

All highly recommended fisheries!
But enough about me, I'll be updating this page monthly. Who I really
want to hear from is you and your angling experiences, sessions or questions
- I'll be happy to put them up and answer the questions for you all.
