Holgate School visit Barlow
In view of the recent
water levels around Sheffield, the staff at Holgate Meadows Community
School wondered if it was really necessary to travel to Barlow Fisheries
in order for their students to catch fish. But they did, and it was
definitely the right decision.
The eight students who are in years eight and nine at the school in
Parson Cross, Sheffield, were very grateful for the tuition that they
received from Kevin Miles and the welcoming hospitality from Rex Ward.
They had a wonderful day out and netted a total of 245 fish - allegedly!
For many of the students, it was the first time that they had attempted
angling and the frequency with which the fish were willing to be caught
proved to be incredibly appealing. Many are now buying tackle and planning
bus routes so that they can visit the ponds at weekends and further
develop their knowledge and skills.
The outing provided the young people with a day in the countryside,
lots of fresh air and experience of a new and exciting sport. It was
a total success; as were, it has to be said...the bacon butties from
the on-site snack cabin!
