Alex and Sarah have owned Aston Park Fishery for about a year now, and what they have done in that time is amazing. They have transformed the Lilly Pond from a quagmire, into a disabled friendly lake, and still have further plans for the rest of their lakes, but I want to concentrate on the Lilly Pond for now.

Alex has his own ideas about the Lilly Pond, he doesn't want it to be "Just another commercial" he'd rather the anglers who go there have a "Unique fishing experience", and with every peg having different features. It offers anglers the chance to try different methods, for example if three anglers went there with one fishing the pole, one fishing the waggler and the other feeder fishing, nobody could predict the outcome. Any of the anglers would stand the chance of catching the most fish. Whilst I'm on about fish, the species in there are, carp to over 30lb, bream to 5lb plus, roach, rudd, tench, crucian carp, perch and even rumours of catfish!

Best ways of catching in the winter months are to use worm or maggot, but when the weather warms up the pellet comes into play (you MUST use the fishery's own feed pellets). Pellet can account for some serious weights of fish, as can meat or corn, and you don't always have to target carp - as catches of bream have won quite a few matches.

If you go to the pond on a "normal" day in the warmer months, you can expect to see 15-20 other anglers on the bank, so you won't be there alone. You can also expect to catch some fish, even in the colder months.

To get to the first of the widest pegs (36-41) from the car park you have to go over about seven yards of compacted hardcore, which a friend of mine easily negotiates in his wheelchair. The path around the Lilly Pond is made up of compacted stone, with two very solid bridges, and again my friend has no problems.
Pegs 36-41 are 5 foot wide, whilst pegs 1-35 are 4 foot wide, so all can be fished by most disabled anglers, however if you require someone to assist you then I recommend the wider pegs.

All pegs have been made from tanalised timber decking, which Alex has personally guaranteed to be level, as he did them himself, which isn't bad when you consider that he is one of the world famous 'Barnsley Blacks' matchmen!! Plus he will freely give people advice on his fishery and help them set up correctly if asked.

Alex and Sarah have plans to build a cafe next to the Lilly Pond, so people with be able to enjoy a bite to eat and a drink there in the near future.

Cost of fishing this venue:-
£5 day ticket, or £4 concessionary.
£75 season ticket or £50 junior
The season ticket also allows you to fish any of the other three lakes.
