A superb Barra for Dan Elliott
Here's Dan's story...
Hi from Australia. Here's a fine example of an impounded freshwater
Barramundi (Lates calcarifer). It was caught locally in Central Queensland,
and although not a huge specimen for Barra, it's in such pristine
condition that we couldn't let it pass without a photo. They can grow
to 1.8 m and 60kg
It was caught using a live mullet on a 9/0 hook suspended 1 metre
below a float. A 40 kilo mono trace was used. A substantial trace
is required due to the razor sharp protrusions on the fishes gill
covers, which are also hazards for unwary fingers.
The estimated weight was 12.5kg.
It was a very warm night, even by CQ standards, and at 1am it was
still 30'C. These tend to be the best nights for Barra fishing, and
mosquito bites!
Two more of similar size were caught on the same night using 15cm
'Killer' style lures with an internal rattle.
Good angling
Dan Elliott.
